Most bedroom doors are designed solely for the purpose of privacy and aren’t always focused on security. However, these doors can still get locked under a variety of circumstances. For instance, if you have children, then there is a very high chance that they would play around with the bedroom door and lock themselves shut. Sometimes, even grown adults have been known to, accidentally, do the same thing. Fortunately, since bedroom doors aren’t too big on security features, it is quite easy to open bedroom door lock without a key, as long as you don’t panic and follow the instructions given below.
Steps to Open Bedroom Door in an Emergency
- The first thing you need to do is find out what kind of door lock has been installed on your bedroom door. There are generally 2 types – a push-button mechanism that locks the door from the inside and twist-turn mechanism that locks the door if turned to the right and unlocks the door when turned to the left. The push-button type is identified by a door knob with a small hole while the twist-turn type has a small slot on the door knob.
- To open the push-button type, you can use an unfolded paper clip or a clothes hanger. The end of the paper clip or clothes hanger must be inserted straight into the hole in the door knob. Once it is inserted all the way till the end, you can unlock the door by applying enough pressure on the inserted paper clip or clothes hanger.
- For the twist-turn type, you will have to use a flat-head screwdriver, which is inserted into the door-knob slot. Once inserted, the screwdriver can be turned slowly in a clockwise direction to unlock the door.
